The boy hasn't said that he's an orphan, but everything Loki has already learned about his situation and his body language says he's either without family, or at the mercy of a truly awful family. He keeps his touch light, unwilling to scare him, but it's easier to cast this sort of spell with a little contact.

The reaction to the cold prompts a little laugh, amusement tinged with sympathy. "Magic can do amazing things, but there are always consequences, and more often than not, there's a backlash."

"Let me see if a pair of my son's shoes will fit you. If not, I can resize one of mine, I think." Fjord might be in between him and Agnarr in sizes. "And then once the tea is ready I'll get you something to eat and we'll figure out what to do with you."

Retreating toward the hall to fetch things, he calls over his shoulder, "Don't touch the stovetop, you'll burn yourself." Possibly an unnecessary warning, but he's not sure how familiar he is with an electronic range.
