Silver Bells? ((for tr1ckortreat))
Dec. 17th, 2020 09:28 amIt's not that Loki buys into the commercialism of Christmas or anything. He doesn't technically celebrate Christmas, in fact. It's Yule to him, the solstice, the nights of the Wild Hunt. But when there are vast wonderlands of toys and candy on display all over the Plaza, it would be remiss of him, he feels, to not take the children around the place for a little fun.
In front of one of the larger toy stores there is a garden of inflatable and lit-up decorations, gleaming in the early dusk, and a machine is blowing out fake snowflakes to festive tunes. The latter, he feels, is probably asking for trouble from one or more of the seasonal Spirits, but that's not his problem as long as the kids don't get caught up in it, and so he's turned them loose to run amok. Eindrid stays close to his knees, as he sits amongst a riot of poinsettias, but the other three are playing hide and seek and tag around a ten foot tall inflatable snowman.
"Frosty," he tells Eindrid, "was in fact not a snowman at all, but a very clever Frost Giant who tricked human children into worshiping him while he caused chaos in their little village."
He's making this up completely, but it's pretty plausible when you think about it, and after a quizzical look from his son, he laughs and sets him in his lap and begins to sing the song. "...with a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal!"

The god was trying to adapt and as the months passed his usual frosty demeanour was beginning to thaw a little. The Plaza was certainly decked out as he approached a rather familiar voice...
"Ah, my other self. I did wonder when we would be meeting again. Although, at least this time you are not catching me winding myself around a pole."
He offered his counterpart a smile and then immediately realised that there were children running around. Were these Loki's children? The ones Thor had spoken to him about? It would seem to be that way. Just the way Loki held his son in his lap caused the god to stare and wonder. It was a strange sight indeed for the god of mischief to be a father. Loki, himself, had never even thought about being a father since that thought was as alien as Midgardians were to him.

"I think the only pole here is the inflatable one with the presents around it, which is supposed to be the North Pole where Santa Claus lives. I don't think you could dance on it if you wanted to."
The child in his lap looks between one Loki and the other with wide, thoughtful eyes. Loki's children are aware he has alternates, and have in fact been taught a number of passwords to determine him from them should the need arise, but the one they see most often doesn't resemble him this closely.
"Eindrid, this is another Loki. A friend, though I don't know him well yet. Can you say hello?"
The toddler waves uncertainly, and then flings himself against his parent's shoulder as if to hide. It might be a game. He peeps out with one eye a second later.
"This is my youngest, Eindrid. The others are playing nearby. I assume I don't need to warn you to be kind?" Even at his worst he was never one to gratuitously harm a child, so he doubts the warning is needed, but he also knows it's hard to resist the opportunity to play tricks.

He offered his counterpart a knowing smile and then allowed his bright green eyes to flicker onto the poor shy child. He was hiding behind his father's body. Of course he was going to be shy and not surprising meeting another version of his father. They looked very alike. It must be frightening for the poor boy. Loki sensed it though. The boy was one of them.
"He is Asgardian. I can sense that in him and the others playing around the snowman. They are all from our world."
Eindrid. A good Norse name for sure and one Loki found to be soft on the ears. The urge to play cruel tricks banished from his mind for the time being since this was his counterpart's family and there was no need to be unkind. He was a guest within their circle.
"You do not have to ward me off using my magic. Your children are indeed handsome and rather adorable I have to say."

Not my universe's Asgard, but the one from whence the Thor you may have met here comes. I do not know if you've heard the details of what happened in their world. I would tell you so that you may avoid the same mistakes, but perhaps not here and now."
He smiles, a little telltale pride in his eyes. "They're clever, too. Sigrid, Una, Agnarr! Come meet this alternate of mine."
He beckons the other three children, and after a moment they all trot over in a loose, curious group.

His eyes lighten up as he watches the others come around and meet the alternate version of their father. It was a rather curious sensation but none the less, Loki smiled down at the Asgardian brood. They were smart and very likeable indeed. Smiling down at them all he offered them a small nod and wasn't sure how else to greet them, being a little more awkward than their father.
"I suppose you can't really call me Loki since that is your father's name. We do need a name to distinguish myself from your father. Any ideas?"
He was wanting to engage with them since it had been a long time since he had been around any children, especially Asgardian children. After being alone for so long it had left a gaping hole in his life as far as socialising went.

Sigrid has honey-brown hair and a softer smile, but she looks him over as if she's taking stock of any differences between him and her papa. Agnarr is almost an adolescent, getting tall, with black hair and dusky skin, wearing leather hiking boots and carrying a utility knife in a sheath at his waist.
"Hveưrungr is an option that appears in the poetic Edda, if I recall right," Loki says. "Though that's a bit of a mouthful. What about Lokke?"
"Uncle Lokke?" Una has little to no sense of social propriety or wariness, and is quick to latch onto these things. "Is he our uncle?" She does, however, double-check with her parent.
"I think that's up to you four, and him," Loki says. "You don't have to decide right away."
